Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate over 50 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball reported this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
